A day in Otaru

14:30

On our way back to Sapporo, we spent a day in Otaru to see and experience the beauty of the place. Otaru is a lovely city with many things to see and do. It takes less than an hour to get there from Sapporo, so it is an ideal place to take a day trip and hang out with your loved ones.

Otaru Canal

The canal is one of Otaru’s most famous attractions with little houses lined on the other side. Many people say that the best time to visit this place is during winter, but I went there in autumn. Still, it looked as beautiful as ever!

Sakaimachi Street

A day trip to Otaru will not be complete if you did not visit the Sakaimachi Street. There are many shops lined along the street so you will be expecting a variety of souvenirs, sweets, food, gift shops, and alcohol! Le Tao, a favourite store of mine has a few stores around the town so you can stop by if you would like to buy some snacks and treats home. Their biscuits, cookies, chocolates, and pastries are DELICIOUS, so be sure to try them.

Hokkaido is famous for their ice cream and Sakaimachi Street is the perfect place to try some as they have a wide range to choose from different stores!

Kaitenzushi Waraku

Let’s end the day in all the right ways with SUSHI! I tried Kaitenzushi Waraku at Sakaimachi Street which was only a few mins walk from the Otaru Canal. Although the sushi did not look as good on the outside, the taste was incredible!! My personal favourite would be the salmon sushi. Apologies for not remembering the names as I was too focus on grabbing sushi from the conveyor belt and munching on them. I am not a big fan of tuna but the ones here are an exception. The salmon was so soft and savoury that every bite made me crave for more. Worth a return visit!
